My name is Kathy Martin. The 2016-17 school year is my fifth year as the District Title 1 Director for Lake Ridge New Tech Schools. Before coming to LRS, I worked for 23 years in the School City of Hobart where I held a variety of positions:
* Liberty Elementary, 2nd grade, 1st grade, and Primary multi-age classroom teacher
* George Earle Elementary, Title 1 & Reading Recovery teacher, Literacy Coordinator
* Hobart Middle School, Literacy Coordinator
* District English Learners (EL) Coordinator
As my closest friends and family will tell you, I've always been a reader, a teacher and a learner. My passion is literacy and how we can best teach students who struggle with learning literacy skills. My current endeavor is working on my doctorate at Purdue University, West Lafayette in Literacy and Language Education. My plan is to teach at the university level after I retire from the K-12 school world, along with conducting research in literacy. For my bachelor's degree, I attended Purdue University, West Lafayette. I earned my master's degree and my administrative license from Purdue Calumet.
My husband Drew teaches math at Hobart High School. Our two children are graduates of Hobart High School: Andrew (2005) and Melanie (2009) who both live in Austin, TX. Andrew graduated from Ball State University with a degree in finance, and Melanie graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Computer Graphics Technology. We also have two cats, Tango and Eli.
I enjoy working with the knowledgeable and hard-working people at Lake Ridge New Tech Schools!
